1. Anything that gets a person to actually exercise regularly is going to have some degree of success.

2. You need no exercise equipment whatsoever to have real results. You'll note that the United States Marine Corp doesn't use such things. Yet look at what results they get from simple calisthenics, exercises and runs.

(You could do far less than a Marine does, and still see results. At no cost to you but time and effort.)
