Time is lost drilling relief well or other activities if a hurricane is approaching.

However, in relationship to an oil spill in general, a hurricane or tropical storm, may help break up or disperse oil with high winds and waves. The spill may be pushed further inland or away from the shore depending on which direction the hurricane comes to shore.
