Unit protection is one whereby the power network system is divided into discrete zones of protection. Each zone is provided with relays and circuit breakers to allow for the detection and isolation of its own internal faults. Example of zones of protection by Unit protection schemes are Generator protection, Busbar protection, Feeder protection, Transformer protection and Motor protection.By Makenote Tshuma
Vector shift in protection refers to the change in the phase angle of a fault current waveform when it flows through different protection zones in a power system. It needs to be considered in distance protection schemes to ensure accurate fault detection and discrimination between zones. If not properly accounted for, vector shift can lead to incorrect operation of protective relays and miscoordination between protection devices.
Initial isolation and protection zones. These use to be the yellow pages in previous ERG's.
Water-dependent zones are areas of land that rely on water sources such as rivers, lakes, or aquifers to sustain various ecological or human activities. These zones can include wetlands, floodplains, riparian areas, and coastal regions where water availability is crucial for the ecosystem's health and functioning. Protection and wise management of water-dependent zones are essential for maintaining biodiversity, water quality, and ecosystem services.
This is also known as red-lining, and is a device used by planners to divide stretches of coast into land use zones. Red-lining identifies those zones at risk to erosion where the costs of protection exceed the possible benefits. Decisions are then made as to which areas need protecting, and zones that are decided to not, are denied planning permission for anything along the coast that may protect the coast.
A recharge zone is an area where surface water can infiltrate into an aquifer, replenishing the groundwater supply. These zones are essential for maintaining adequate water levels in aquifers and ensuring sustainable water resources. Protection and monitoring of recharge zones are critical for managing water resources effectively.
Crumple zones are designed to enhance vehicle safety by absorbing and dissipating energy during a collision. They are strategically engineered areas that deform in a controlled manner, reducing the force transferred to occupants. By increasing the time over which the collision occurs, crumple zones help to minimize injuries and improve survival rates in accidents. Overall, they play a crucial role in modern vehicle design for occupant protection.
"No zones" typically refer to areas where certain activities or behaviors are prohibited or restricted. This concept is often applied in contexts such as environmental protection, urban planning, or security measures, where specific regions are designated to prevent development, pollution, or access. The goal is to preserve natural habitats, ensure public safety, or maintain order in sensitive locations. Overall, "no zones" help manage human impact on specific environments or situations.
Time Zones?
If you mean time zones. There is one. Russia has 7 time zones.
Earth's polar zones are also called the Earth's Frigid Zones.
Current transformers are used to supply a ratio of the current flowing through the breaker to equipment such as protective relays and meters. If the CTs are used for protection, they are placed around a breaker to provide different, ideally overlapping, zones of protection.
