cuz he doesn't want anybody 2 make fun of who he likes. it's to protect his reputation and avoid embarrassment. Because sometimes they might feel shamed out coz you might not feel the same way and he could be afraid of rejection and embarasment. And someone else he knows might like you already or you have a BF and he doesnt wish to start a fight.
