Glaucoma can be acute or chronic and both have high intraocular pressure which is higher in acute than chronic. Chronic glaucoma is the most common type and the patient will not feel any thing until the disease is advanced with constriction in the peripheral visual field that increase gradually till the patient only see through the center of his vision. The acute type which is due to angle closure glaucoma comes with red eye, increase tearing, photophobia or light sensitivity, severe pain that radiate to the head causing headache, nausea, vomiting, blurring of vision due to corneal edema. Acute glaucoma is a medical emergency that should be treated as soon as possible.
In glaucoma, flare and cell are indicative of inflammation in the anterior chamber of the eye. Flare refers to the presence of protein and other inflammatory substances in the aqueous humor, leading to a hazy appearance, while cells refer to the accumulation of white blood cells in the same area. These signs often suggest a secondary form of glaucoma, such as uveitic glaucoma, where underlying inflammatory processes affect intraocular pressure and overall eye health. Monitoring these signs is crucial for managing the condition effectively.
The signs of someone having 'bug eyes' are usually that their eyes are slightly protuding. This is usually the sign of an underlying medical condition such as glaucoma.
Glaucoma is not contagious.
I'm unable to show images, but I can describe what an eye with glaucoma may look like. In glaucoma, the optic nerve can be damaged, leading to vision loss. The eye may appear normal externally, but if you look for signs, there could be changes like a larger optic nerve head or increased cupping. Regular eye exams are essential for detecting glaucoma early, as it often shows no visible symptoms until significant damage occurs.
Antioxidant supplements have anti-aging properties. They also provide a stronger immune system and glaucoma prevention.
