Many Americans exchange wrapped gifts, erect "Christmas trees", hang mistletoe, watch "Christmas movies", reunite with family members, hang stockings, put cookies and milk out for "Santa Clause" (a fictional character based off of "St. Nicholas"), and decorate their homes with stringed lights. In America, many traditions in which people take part have little meaning, aside from it either being sentimental or simply taking part in tradition for the sake of tradition. In fact many people who are not Christian (even some atheists) celebrate "Christmas" by taking part in several of the traditions listed above. Christ-mas is supposed to be the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ, Who is God in the flesh, having been born by a virgin Israelite, and Who later died for the sins of humankind (including ours) by being nailed to a Roman cross and rose from the dead on the third day after His death. Therefore, it is debatable as to whether people not celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ as their personal Savior can legitimately say they are "celebrating Christmas". Christians celebrate Christmas by remembering the best gift that could have ever been given to the world: that is God who became human (Jesus Christ) for the sake of saving sinful humanity from the wrath we deserve.
Baking cookies for Santa, Christmas trees, lights hung on the house, wreaths, some people decorate the inside of the house and/or stairs, and usually the same person puts the topper on the tree every year.
There are many traditions that are practiced around the world for Christmas. A few traditions include the Netherlands where they eat pepernoot and kerstKrans, also in the UK and other countries where one sends cards wishing a happy Christmas.
In America, on chrismas day, every girl has to find a boy and sex with them under the mistle toe!
