Give me ONE advantage of NOT using SI measurement. Already knowing those archaic units and not knowing metric units is not an advantage, it's actually a disadvantage.
The absolute simplicity of just moving a decimal point to change from one unit to another unit, is the reason for the change. It is SOOO simple .
E.G. Turn 6300 Pounds to UK Tons. Answer: 6300 divided by 2240 = ? DO THAT WITHOUT A MODERN CALCULATOR IN YOUR POCKET. It takes too long.
OR turn 6300 Kg to Tonne. Answer: (Move the decimal point) 6.3 Tonne TOO EASY
No need for a calculator.
Now try this: How many acres in a land area 400 feet X 200 feet ? Answer=1.836 Acre
To calculate that answer you divide 80,000 by 9,then by 30.25,then by40,then by 4 !
How crazy is that?
Now turn 400Metre X 200Metre to HECTARES Answer: 80,000 divided by 10,000
which equals 8 Hectares. HOW EASY IS THAT ? No calculator needed. Just move the decimal point 4 places to the left to get an answer.
old system of measurement English system of measurement
It was recognised that there needed to be an internationally common scientific measurement system and the international scientific community concensus was that it should be the SI system.
The International System of units uses celsius as the measurement of temperature. It is called the SI system of measurement. The International Union of Pure and Applied Chemists use Kelvin as the official measurement of temperature.
Established in 1960 by the international agreement, the "Metric System" is the international standard of measurement.
The SI (International System of Units), and the Metric System.
SI stands (in French) for Système international d'unités, the International System of Units [of measurement].
International System, SI. (from Lè Système International d' Unités).
The base SI unit of distance is the meter.
Ounces and feet are units of measurement in the English system.
The worldwide system of measurement is called SI (short for Système international d'unités). It is a variation of the metric system.
