Fossil Fuels, though not radioactive, still harm our planet. Fossil Fuels release carbon dioxide and green house gasses. All things that harm layers of the Earth's atmosphere. Besides this when they are burnt in power plants a lot of heavy smoke and harmful toxics or gasses are released, polluting our atmosphere.

Drawbacks:

Oil, a fossil fuel, must be transported from the drilling site, to the refinery. Oil is subject to spillage during shipping, and harms marine environments when spilled into the ocean. Burning fossil fuels also releases sulfur dioxide, which causes acid rain. It also releases particulates, which harm organisms, including people.

Fossil fuels have been used for a long time and they are not sustainable, which means they will eventually run out, and at the speed we are using them up they will only last for about another 100 yrs. That's why people at the green camp are so enthusiastic about using alternatives.

They release huge amounts of CO2 which increase global warming as well as nitric acids and sulphur acids which might cause acid rain. Also, fossil fuels are non-renewable, as they are made by decayed animals and plants thousands of years ago.
