My folks were very tradional in their Christian beliefs. No swearing or cussing, no drinking, avoid gluttony and lies, no breaking of man's laws, keep the ten commandments, etc. For most of my childhood they went to church on special occasions, Christmas and Easter, etc. and thought that was all they needed to do to be a believer in Christ. Go through the motions and warm a pew occasionally on Sunday. They were reborn later in life and developed a new understanding and dedication to their church, community and God. My father disliked being around a lot of people and found talking to strangers very difficult, but he became involved in many outreach ministry programs in the community and my mother began donating her time and talents to teaching children in the church.
Superstitious beliefs are everywhere with us, it depends with the geographical location. For instance in Africa, folks believe that if a man is not accorded proper burial, then he will haunt the people.
