The name of the pneumoconiosis depends upon the typed of dust inhaled which causes the lung scarring. For example - asbestosis is caused by breathing asbestos fibres. When the condition is caused by breathing in coal dust - the condition is known as coal miner's pneumoconiosis or black lung. The coal dust is black and the scarring of the lungs is also black.
