The ozone layer is there to protect earth from harmful radiation i.e UVA & UVB rays from the sun etc. When parts of the ozone layer are worn away due to CFCs (chlorofluorocarbons), earth is exposed to this ultra-violet radiation. Also, because there is no ozone layer in some parts of the world this lets all heat and radiation in and thus contributes to global warming.
The main effect of ozone depletion would be the entering of ultraviolet radiation to the earth's surface.
The main consequences will be problems like skin cancer and eye cataracts.
