To find them it definitely depends on where you live. If you have a rich downtown shopping area, then I would look there first. The "hippie" stores in my area are called Talluh-Labelle and Catching Fireflies. Consignment stores, and Salvation Army Wear houses often have cool retro things for less.
If you are looking for a cool more indie vibe then hippy, There is this site online called
fredflare.com
They have some pretty nifty stuff and are based out of NYC.
One last option, is that if your community has outdoor markets where vendors sell things they make, look there. I often find tye-dye booths and some jewelry booths with cool chunky beads, etc.
If you wanna reach outside the "hippy" store scene while keeping the vibe, I recommend Cardigans, Droopy necklaces and bangles, and for shoes I would go with Converse or this shoe called Sperry Topsiders.
Have fun!
PEACE!

National Hippie Day is just National Peace Day but young children think it's cool to call it National Hippie Day. (I would be one of those "young children". ;)
Some cheap and great accessories to use for hippie costumes you can find at your local thrift store. They have scarves to use as headbands, beaded necklaces, and you might find a cool peace necklace or vest.
There are many cool shops in New York City, for example Gabay's Outlet. Other shops of interest are Ranali Boutique, Leica, Comic Den, Cosmic Comics, Evolution and Hershey's Chocolate World.
Willie Nelson was born and raised in Abbott, Texas, that's a long way from Canada.
