Wait for your W2 because you may have pre-tax deductions (such as 401K contributions) that will reduce your gross earnings that may not be reflected or accurately reflected on your last pay stub.
One should expect for there to be deductions for federal, state, local and social security tax. You may also see deductions for health insurance and your 401k investments.
Gross is your total pay. The Net is what is left after all of the deductions. ie FICA, Fed Tax, State Tax, and any Medical Insurance you may have.
Stud? lol You will get a W-2 form from that employer. That is what you have to have... not just your last pay stub. Call and ask if they have it or if thy have mailed it. They use your last know mailing address. So, if you have moved, it may be lost.
Of Course you can!!! Just give them in the beginning of the month then they'll except == ans == NO. The W-2 and/or 1099s MUST be submitted with the formal return. Some tax preparers have a LOAN process, where by using you last check to prove to THEM that you have overpaid your tax and will be getting a refund, they will give you a loan against that eventual refund (which you actually get when the real return, using the correct forms (not a paycheck stub) is filed. These "quick refund" loans - by whatever name they may go under - are becoming illegal and regulated in many areas as they ave been the source of many abusive loan practices, are ALWAYS such a bad deal it almost amounts to thievery and should never be done as simply being about the most foolish financial thing possible.
A couple of deductions you could find on your paycheck stub would include Federal Income Tax, State Taxes, Social Security, Medicare, Insurance, Retirement Saving Funds, and Account Spendings.

Some deductions would be if you make donations to charities you can include the receipt. Also you can deduct some medical expenses. I am in Canada and so this information may only apply to people in Canada so you should check the rules for your area.
