A primary disadvantage is the wear and tear over time. Many metals tend to rust or erode after long exposure to the elements. The roof would need to be treated regularly to prevent this. In some opinion, the biggest disadvantage of a metal roof would be the conductivity. Metal conducts things such as heat and cold very well, so it would be difficult to keep the inside of the house at a desired temperature rather than whatever the elements bring to it.
