A variable in an experiment can be manipulated by changing some aspect of the experiment.
some species of plants or animals could die out as they can't adapt to the environment

thirst, no crops can grow, no cooking (when water is needed) and can damage the ecosystem and the food chain.
El nino is the warm ocean current. It affects the ocean ecosystem by changing the climate of those regions through which it passes. Change in its direction causes heavy rains at some places and drought at other places.
Environments are constantly changing. When a species is taken out of an ecosystem, it changes the environment drastically. However, eventually, the environment and all organisms it contains regain balance through adaption. When the originally removed species returns, the balance is thrown off again. If the original species is not gone for a long enough period to cause huge changes, any negative effects of change can be quickly reversed. If the species is introduced after new balance is acquired, some negative effects may include decimation of adjusted species or natural resources.
Earthquakes generally have minimal effects on a freshwater ecosystem. Because fault lines do not tend to go through a freshwater ecosystem, the quakes cannot to harm directly to the organisms. Some damage that could be a result of a quake would be trees falling down, some organisms falling down and loosing their balance, ect. As you can see, it is not exactly a bad problems all the freshwater organisms have to worry about. And naturally, it would depend on where the ecosystem is. But overall, the earthquake really doesn't play a factor into the ecosystem as a whole.
For instance, in an experiment on plants, some plants may be subjected to variables - different fertilisers, soil, temperature, daylight, diseases, etc. While other plants would be kept separate as a control. The control plants would not be subjected to any variables or experiments. The control plants would be used to compare the growth and the effects on the plants that were subjected to the variables.
Main componets of an ecosystem are its Flora and Fauna
All plants live in an ecosystem.
The idea is to work with the same variables, but it is possible that some of the variables are missing in some of the equations.
