It depends on the neuron. Some neurons respond better to a pressure stimulus or temperature, light, sound ect. For example the neurons in the retina of the eye, they respond to photons of light, but do not respond to pressure or sound.
An inanimate object, such as a computer or a tree, cannot talk but may respond when spoken to in some way. For example, a computer can respond to commands or prompts, and a tree can sway or rustle in response to wind or touch.
Some medications can be used to treat certain ophthalmic conditions. For example, surgery for glaucoma is performed only in patients who do not respond to medication.
respond means to say something when some one calls you.
Living things respond to the environment. Thus this is an example of the characteristic of the ability to respond to stimuli.
RESPOND: To answer or react to something. For example, When someone calls your name you RESPOND by looking to see who called you. Or you RESPOND verbally by saying "I am here!". When someone writes you a letter you RESPOND by sending a letter back to them.
wombats respond to the environment
Plankton respond rapidly to their environment. A key example of this is that they multiply more rapidly in response to higher amounts of carbon dioxide in the environment.
The receptors that enable you to see and taste food are primarily photoreceptors in the eyes and chemoreceptors in the taste buds. Photoreceptors, such as rods and cones, respond to light stimuli, allowing you to see food visually. Chemoreceptors in the taste buds detect chemical substances in food, enabling the perception of taste. Together, these sensory receptors provide a comprehensive experience of food through sight and flavor.
You have to check it & some of them you need to respond to.
