Tanning lotions are essential for tanning in tanning beds. There are several different reasons why and I'll explain them to you below. If you do not use a tanning lotion in a tanning bed you may damage your skin because of the harmful effects of UV light. Tanning lotions are designed to either block UV light or increase the effects of UV light on your skin. Tanning lotions will moisture your skin and some contain Vitamin E which helps repair damaged cells. Without moisturizing your skin you can develop wrinkles or have your skin peel. To read more about tanning lotions and their effects I suggest you read my article which will give you a basic understanding of the right lotion you should be using and the advantages of each of the 3 types of tanning lotions.
Accelerators, maximizers, and intensifiers are all sort of "generic" terms for tanning lotion. These lotions generally have no bronzers. Accelerator is a term most used to describe a "beginner" tanning lotion, something to help start your tan. Do not be afraid of these words, it doesn't mean you will burn. They will help you tan. You should never tan without an indoor tanning lotion. Maximizers and intersifiers are generally the "second step" tanning lotion for a more experienced tanner - HOWEVER - it DOES NOT mean you can't start out with these lotions. The maximizer lotions have extras for the more experienced tanner such as Theraplexin, which increases the body's rate of DNA repair by up to 400% and produces a deeper darker tan for an extended period of time. This does not necessarily mean that a beginner can't use this lotion, but it does mean the lotion costs more. Bronzer lotions enhance your tan with "extra color". Sometimes bronzers are just cosmetic color, the kind that will just wash off. Some bronzers are a derivitave of DHA which is a type of self-tanner. Some bronzers today have dual, triple and even quadruple bronzers. Designer Skin makes awesome "low maintenance" bronzers that will not streak or stain or turn a funky color. California Tan produces a range of sun tanning lotions, for both indoor (artificial) and outdoor use. Founded in 1989 with only outdoor tanning and sun block products, it has since branched into the indoor tanning solutions market with both creams and lotions as well a instructional videos and self tanning programs.
This is a very popular question and I'll explain why it's better to apply indoor tanning lotions before tanning. Most indoor tanning lotions have some type of moisturizer in them. Moisturizers help protect your skin because they keep moisture inside your skin that would generally be lost due to the excessive heat inside the tanning bed. Applying lotions before entering the tanning bed at least 15 minutes before tanning allows those moisturizers and vitamins like vitamin E enough time to soak into your skin. If you apply tanning lotion right before entering the tanning bed your skin may not have enough time to soak up all of the moisturizers and UV protection before tanning which can have adverse effects on your skin.
sunless tanning is were you lay down in a coffin of some sort and it produces UV light which makes your skin darker which means that you don't even have one glimpse of the sun which is sunLESS tanning
This question has really several different parts to it. My question for you is where are you tanning? Because some parts of the earth are exposed to higher levels of sunlight. The higher the altitude the more you can get burnt because you are closer to the sun as well. Tanning beds expose you to different UV rays than normal sunlight so it all depends on the duration of time that you spend in the sun or the tanning bed. If you plan to tan outside instead of tanning indoors, check out different tanning lotions. Tanning lotions can make the whole difference between whether its better for you to tan indoors or outdoors. Some lotions block harmful UV rays while others allow UV rays to penetrate your skin so the melanin in your skin reacts. The reaction of your melanin will cause you to tan. To see a full review that may help you determine which tanning lotion is right for you go to my website. This may help you make that determination so whichever you prefer, outside or indoors, you can be properly protected. Tanning in a tanning bed is worse because you are closer to the uv rays and they can damage you more easily.
Indoor tanning lotion is going to help increase the melanin production in your skin which in turn helps you tan faster. If you don't use lotion before getting into a tanning bed, you're (dry) skin will reflect the UV light for the first 6-8 minutes you're in the bed. Some tanning lotions include bronzers, which show a little extra added 'fake' color right away, while others have a lot of skin care ingredients to take care of your skin while tanning. Choose an indoor tanning lotion with alot of vitamins and minerals, as these are depleted when you tan. Using better lotion helps you tan faster and keeps your skin healthy.
Tanning beds expose you to UV light which has been linked to cancer. Tanning beds can also cause premature wrinkles and damage to your skin cells. If the proper tanning lotions are used you can help prevent damage to your skin. I would suggest that you find out what type of skin you have and which tanning lotion is right for you. If you tan in moderation and protect yourself properly you can avoid some of the potentially harmful effects.
It is not true that you can not wear sunscreen in a tanning bed. Most tanners choose to use accelerators and maximizer's but some tanners still use sunscreen on sensitive areas and there are even lotions which contain a low SPF (usually no more then an SPF4).
One good way to brown your skin is to sunbathe outside or, when that is not an option, go to a tanning salon and use a tanning bed. Another way one can brown their skin is by using self-tanning lotions, which take a few hours to take effect and darken one's skin for a few days.
Without sunshine in some form, either natural or simulated, you can not tan. However, you can get the appearance of a tan by using a sunless tanning option. Tanning salons often offer sunless tanning booths and there are several sunless tanning lotions and sprays available for home use. Some are designed as special occasion lotions, designed to last for just one day and then wash off in the shower such as Designer Skin's One Night Stand. Others are designed for longing staying, generally 3 to 5 days such as California Tan's Sunless Tanning or Ed Hardy's Mermaid Sunless Spray. Pauly D from Jersey Shore joined with Devoted Creations and released his own Instant Bronzing Spray just recently. There are countless options available to those wishing to look golden tan without sun exposure.
