Two examples of archaebacteria are thermoacidophiles and halophiles. These are single-celled organisms and scientists believe they are the oldest form of organisms. Methanogens are a third example.
An archaebacteria is a single-celled organism having some characteristics of bacteria and some characteristics of other organisms such as fungi, plants, and animals. Archaebacteria have been found in animals guts, compost piles, and other very unpleasant places. Some live in deep-sea hydrothermal vents in extremely high temperature and pressure where little else can survive. They use a process called chemosynthesis to obtain energy from chemical reactions with hydrogen sulfide (rotten egg gas) and other inorganic compounds. At the bottom of the food chain, they are eaten by clams, tube worms, mussels, and other animals that live near the vents.
Halophiles(salt lovers), Thermophiles(heat lovers), Pychophiles(cold lovers), Xenophiles(not completely sure about this one but i think it mean dry lovers, desert dwelling archea)
Polyextremophiles(have many adaptions to suit extreme environments)
Archaebacteria are divided into three groups called the methanogens, halophiles and thermoacidiophiles. Lets us have a look at some of the archaebacteria examples based on these sub-groups.
