∙ 12y ago- Soft water leaves very little mineral residue on Plumbing fixtures and surfaces.
- Soft water deposits less scale and sediment in water heaters.
- Soft water requires less soap or detergent in the dishwasher, laundry or bath.
- If water is too soft, however, it does not rinse away soap or shampoo easily.
A water softener (that you install in your plumbing) or a tap water filter (like a Brita Filter) both filter your normal house water to remove some minerals, purifying it. Of course, tap water would be fine to drink either way. Soft water is usually used for showers because it makes your hair softer, or in fishtanks because it's good for the fishies (I wouldn't know, I don't own fish).
