Well spoken people use very different register in English according to circumstances, to whom we are speaking, and other matters. We may "talk down" to young children, and we may coo to our pets ( when we're not scolding them), we talk "normally" with friends but we speak carefully and respectfully before a judge. Polite conversation with friends will be in an entirely different register than locker-room banter with the same people.
