Some more games:
Ride-a-buck:
You sit on a dollar bill, and try your hardest to not let it fly away. There are other people involved, and you ride at a walk, jog, and lope, eventually doing rollbacks and circles, and backing up. This game is fun!
Follow the leader:
Let your horse out in an enclosed area. Make sure there are no obstacles the first time. Have treats ready, and walk around the arena. A lot of times, horses will follow you if there isn't already munchies on the ground. When your horse follows you a few steps, reward him/her with a treat! Eventually you'll be able to walk around for ages with him following. Also, you can add some poles or jumps for your horse.
Fill the bucket:
Get a couple friends, and at least one barrel. Mount your horse, and have someone hand you a cup of water. Have the bucket set up on the barrel, and the barrel at the end of your arena/pasture. Ride out starting at a walk, then jog, then lope, trying to fill up the bucket as you go around it.
Find a Boot:
Have your friends and you all take off one boot. Pile the boots in a pile at the end of the arena. Have someone waiting next to the pile to grab your reins. Ride out to the pile (one-booted), hop off, hand your reins to person, find your boot, and ride back!
For a horse that hasn't jumped very high, do some cavaletti (jumps about 10cm (4 inches) tall) at a trot. then work on canter. leave enough space ebtween the jumps so if your horse jumps rather than steps over them, he won't crash into the next one. For a horse that has jumped 50cm - 1 metre, work him at about 50cm, then put the poles RIGHT down or put them on the ground and work on triple bounces (three jumps with one stride in between each one) and jumps that need a long jump like oxers or water jumps. For horses that jump over 1 metre, work on your style and speed. Make sure you horse's canter is a consistant 1-2-3-1-2-3 that you can set a clock to.

try doing some exercises that involve jumping without stirrups or jumping without hands (tie reins and stick your arms out like an airoplane) if you have trouble feeling when your horse will take off try some grids with your eyes closed. These exercises will help you feel the horse's movements and enable you to move naturally on the horse. If you are more advanced and are more technical, have someone videotape you riding. This way you can focus on what needs to change with each body part. Remember not to fall into bad habits! Proper practise makes perfect!
