The lines can be a bit vague at time. Death Metal was derived from Thrash - it basically took Thrash, and stripped it down even further to its most basic elements. Early Death Metal bands (Possessed, Incubus - the band now known as Opprobrium, pre-Arise era Sepultura, Graf Spee, etc.) were still Thrash bands at their core. In the 1990s, Death Metal sought to further the gap between Thrash bands and themselves, and turned to Hardcore Punk and its derivatives (Powerviolence, Crust Punk, Grindcore, etc.) for influence - this is especially apparent with bands such as Cannibal Corpse, later Morbid Angel albums, Deicide, etc. Thus, your more modern Death Metal bands tend to be quite distinguishable from Thrash bands, whereas earlier Death Metal bands drew a much finer line.
That's hard to say since the line from thrash metal to death metal is very blurry. Kreator, Slayer and Sepultura are widely known for creating riffs in a rather death metal fashion (more alternate picking, slower note changes). Probably the first of those bands to completely disband the punk attitude from thrash metal were Possessed and Death, so they could be called the 2 first metal bands.

Thrash metal music is currently facing a resurgence in popularity. However, one of the first thrash metal songs ever is believed to be "Stone Cold Crazy" by Queen in 1974. Some of the more popular thrash metal bands are: Anthrax, Megadeth, Metallica and Slayer; however there are many less popular bands such as Angel Dust, Gama Bomb and Kekal.
In my opinion there are several bands that could be categorized as music that bad-asses listen too. (Alternative Metal)Haji's Kitchen (Alternative Metal)Enfold Darkness (Technical Blackened Death Metal)Emperor (Black Metal)Dragonlord (Symphonic Black Metal)Overkill (Thrash Metal)
Now the bands I'm mentioning are not thrash metal bands, but they are still in the metal genre/spectrum.Dragonlord (Formed by guitarist Eric Peterson of Testament; Black Metal Band; Favorite Song: UNTIL THE END.)Dragonforce (Not really acquainted with this band, but i thought i would list them, Power Metal)
Exodus, the American thrash metal band, is often nicknamed "The Godfathers of Thrash Metal." This title reflects their influential role in shaping the thrash metal genre alongside other pioneering bands. Their aggressive sound and complex compositions have earned them a prominent place in metal history.
Almost none. It depends. Just google it. But if you hear it on mainstream American radio, it's not death metal.
People have different opinions on whether it is satanic or not, but I don't really think it is. Some of us just like to rock out and turn up the volume. It's a good way to let out your anger and depression. It also depends on the lyrics. Just because they curse and scream doesn't mean it's about Satan and all that stuff. If that's what the lyrics are like in a different song, then sure, it could be considered satanic. It isn't always metal. Think about the religion of the band that made the song. Some bands are Satanic, but it doesn't mean anything different from what non-Satanic bands sing about. There's several different types of Metal music, such as Thrash, NÜ Metal, Etc. And, keep in mind, they have also made Christian metal.
August Burns Red and Austrian Death Machine.
The differences are as apparent as night and day. Doom Metal is one of two genres derived directly from Black Sabbath. Black Sabbath, Pentagram (US), Saint Vitus, Cirith Ungol, Candlemass, Solitude Aeturnus, Reverend Bizarre, Solstice.. those are examples of what Doom Metal really is. In the 90s, it became popular to tag anything which happened to be played slower than Megadeth as Doom Metal, leading to the term "nu-doom" being coined by purists to refer to bands which were labeled as Doom Metal, but did not share any common origins with true Doom Metal bands (e.g., My Dying Bride, Anathema, Katatonia, Sunn o))), et. al). Death Metal is derived from Thrash, starting with bands such as Possessed, who essentially strove to create a more raw form of Thrash Metal. In the late 80s and early 90s, Death Metal bands moved away from the Thrash/Death sound, taking influence from the Crust Punk, Powerviolence, and Grindcore bands of the era in order to create an even more basic, raw sound.
There are a lot of death metal bands. Starting back in the early eighties.
