The Harry Potter series is lots of fun to read. Also, a number of adventure stories by Gary Paulsen, such as Hatchet and Brian's Winter (a continuation of Hatchet), are excellent reading. Try them.
All education books are good for any age. There are some books available for certain ages or grades. Even those not in school enjoy read educational books just to be more in tune with the world or learn new information.

it depends on how good an author you are, at the start you will probably have to spend ages finding someone who will publish your book, then how much you are going to sell your book for and how much of the profits you will get, the shop will get etc... so it really depends on how good at writing books you are and how much you sell them the book / books for.
