Often a simple basement provides good shelter. Otherwise there are two main types of storm shelter. Underground shelters, which have doors installed in the ground, which are often installed in the yard of a house or some other place that they are needed such as a trailer park. There are also above ground shelters, which are about the size of a walk-in closet which can be installed in or ear existing homes. These are made of steel and similar substances and a very strong.
The best shelter during a tornado is a basement or cellar. Other good places include interior rooms on the first floors of sturdy buildings and bathrooms.
A tornado shelter is a safe place designed for people to take shelter in the event of a tornado. Tornado shelters may consist of underground cellars or small, reinforced rooms above ground.
The primary form of mitigation we use for tornadoes is giving out warnings in advance. Such warnings do not reduce the property damage but they reduce the number of people who are killed or injured. Some homes now have built in tornado shelters.
