I have would like to refer and tell something about these software as per my experience,
• Blender - (It’s currently free, and has a good fan base, lots of guides and lot of tutorials online)
• Autodesk 3d Studio Max - (Has a massive following, heard some people say it has an easier learning curve than say Maya and lends itself better to artistic creativity. I wouldn’t know cause I haven’t used it before. It does have a lot of online resources and tutorials though).
• Autodesk Maya - (Popular in the movies and visual effects industry. Has a strong online following).
• Autodesk Softimage - (Popular as well, with a good fan base and online resources. It’s no longer in active development though. Autodesk discontinued it since March 2014)
• Cinema 4d - ( Popular, with good online resources)
