Honestly, there really aren't medical uses for hallucinogens. Psilocybin Mushrooms (Magic Mushrooms, 'Shrooms' etc.) used to be use to treat chronic cluster headaches, OCD, and even depression, but that stopped because the mushrooms have severe side effects. LSD was used for similar reasons, and PCP was actually used as an anesthetic during surgeries in World War II. Again though, both of the drugs had side effects that outweighed their benefits, so they were discontinued.
Some hallucinogens such as "magic mushrooms" or mescaline come from plants. Some plants have been used in shamanism to see visions. Other hallucinogens such as LSD, ecstasy and PCP are man-made.

Most hallucinogens are controlled substances in the US because of their alleged potential for abuse. though if not taken responsibly can lead to bodily harm or death. Some have limited application in medicine and research. All Tryptamine Hallucinogens were made illegal along with LSD some time during the 60s.
