The best tip I have is to study hard and study ahead. Use a variety of different preparation materials and give yourself adequate time to prepare. Some students may take 6 months or more to prepare for the test.

When I took the GRE some years ago I didn't set a timetable to study. I bought the study guide at a bookstore and looked it over a bit each day. Read some of the hints about how to take the test ( those proved very helpful) and took the practice tests in the back of the book.
Yes, there are both sample tests and study guides online for this test. Most of the study guides are going to cost you some money to download though.
There are many sites that have information regarding the sat test, some with helpful tips as well as practice tests. Here is a link that has some information regarding the sat tests: http://www.testprepreview.com/sat_practice.htm
Ahh, here is where it cann be helpful to take a Bible study class.
No, although the two tests (both the AQL and MAT tests) are olympiad-like examinations (IE: tests you cant study for, but yet need to study for) The tests are set by the University of Cape Town. I'd suggest you download some past UCT Math Olympiads and practise those. The AQL test is designed to see if you can cope with university language and terminology - check the Internet for some Qualitative Literacy Tests, they should all be the same. Good luck!
You can help prepare for the test with some online practice tests but be prepared because the online tests may differ a lot from the test you actually get.
You can find old tests through the study guides. The teacher might also be willing to give you some old tests to help you to prepare.
