Best Answer

Medieval music does not include the major or minor key, instead it uses Modes.

Medieval music was written in unison, with no harmony.

In the Middle Ages instrumental music wasn't very popular, so most Medieval Music wasn't written for the voice.

Personal comment: I am an 11 year old child who has just written this, because I was looking for the same answer and just remembered some facts from school!

My question is

What did the people in the Medieval times use medieval music for?

people in the past mostly played the music for celebrations and/or ceremonies like weddings.

Gregorian Chants are regarded as medieval, though they could come from earier times.

I always liked Victimae Paschali Laudes, which can be heard at the Wikipedia article on it. The trouble is, it is sung by a single voice there and really requires a choir to be done right as there are parts that are for men and other parts for women.

Hildegard of Bingen wrote a musical morality play called Ordo Virtutum. I am not sure, but I think it is the oldest musical play we have.

Adam de la Halle wrote Jeu de Robin et Marion, which is another medieval play, but it is secular. It is about a woman named Marion who is approached by a knight who is taken by her beauty. She refuses him and tells Robin, her true love, about it.

The Middle Ages saw a large amount of music that was composed by troubadours, jongleurs, minstrels, and so on. The music proliferated in the High Middle Ages, and composers began to write music in notations we can use to play the music today. Rather than list it all, I will refer you to the article at the link below.
