Some of Portugal's most famous monuments are its UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

The Alentejo Region [Região do Alentejo] in the south has one World Heritage Site: the historic center of Évora with its medieval walls and Roman temple.

The Central Region [Região Centro] has two World Heritage Sites: the Batalha Monastery [Mosteiro Santa Maria da Vitória]; and the Convent of the Order of Christ [Convento de Cristo].

The Lisbon Region [Região de Lisboa] has three World Heritage Sites: the Monastery of Santa Maria d'Alcobaça [Mosteiro de Santa Maria de Alcobaça]; the Monastery of the Hieronymites [Mosteiro dos Jerónimos] with Tower of Belem [Torre de Belém]; and the town of Sintra with its 19th century architecture.

The North Region [Região Norte] has four World Heritage Sites: the Alto Douro Wine Region; the Prehistoric Rock-Art Sites in the Côa Valley; the historic center of Guimarães with its historical medieval monuments; and the historic center of Porto.
