I think the question should be "What are the disadvantages of being a materialistic person?"
I think the main disadvantage is that you can truly never have long lasting happiness or be at a peaceful state of mind because you constantly need something material. The more you get, the more you want. You are always in a mode of chasing. People who are spiritual are just happy with the moment and not constantly running after material things.
