Before I answer this question, I would like to make something very clear to everybody who believes in Evolution: Intelligent design is NOT necessarily creation. Creation is a type of intelligent design, though.
Any way, back to the question. Most Christians do believe in Intelligent Design, more specifically creation. According to Genesis 1:1-2:25, God created the earth in 6 days, and took a break on the seventh.
So, why believe in ID any way? Well, here are a few things you may want to consider:
Why is the world so perfect? Why is nature in such a delicate balance, that if one animal happened to disappear, so would many others? Why do we have air, and water? Why are we so far away from the sun so it doesn't scald us, yet not too far away for it to be to cold?
If we lacked any of the things on the list above, it would be extremely hard for any kind of life to exist. So, did we adapt to the hard conditions, magically evolve and weave a perfect world for our selves- by accident?

Why does intelligent design seem appealing if not convincing to some people?
Intelligent design's popularity is derived from it's apparent ability for people to reconcile science with their inherent religious beliefs. People would much rather choose to still believe in their God and use intelligent design to explain nature (no mater how flawed, and unscientific it is) rather than actually understand the truth of evolution.

Not sure how to answer this as scientific theories are not subject to the law but are supported by overwhelming evidence. The only time that evolution or the theory that supports it is in a court of law is when some public school somewhere, or some state somewhere tries to introduce religion into the classroom disguised inder the terms creation " science : or intelligent design.There is no theory of evolution put forward by Charles Darwin that includes intelligent design. If fact the theory of evolution by natural selection is the antithesis of intelligent design.
