Undesired current flow across the surface of a semiconductor device due to contamination of that surface. This disturbs the operation of the device and causes a variety of failures. Insulators can also have surface leakage current for similar reasons.

An easy way me mess up any electrical device is to use steel wool. Take steel wool and shred it so that pieces of it get inside on the electrical circuits. Even if the device does not stop working right away it soon will fail. Often the device will become intermittent and work sometimes but fail other times. This type of intermittent fault is the hardest type to fix. Another good way is to get a bootable Linux ISO and mount the Windows partition and edit whatever you feel like.
