Bump flannel is an English flannel that is very thick. It is used as backing for winter draperies and as a padding for tablecoths. It is also used in ironing board material for commerical use. Martha Stewart has instructions for making a large ironing board (for tablecoths, etc.) that uses it: http://www.marthastewart.com/article/oversize-ironing-board .
