In chapter 15 of "The Lightening Thief," the group has arrived in Denver and have contacted Luke via an Iris-message at a car wash. They learn that there are problems back at Camp Half-Blood, and Luke accuses Hades of using his helm of darkness to steal the master bolt. Afterwards, Percy, Annabeth, and Grover go to a diner and there they meet Ares, the God of War. Ares promises them a ride to Los Angeles if they will retrieve his shield from Waterland. After falling into a trap that was set by Aphrodite's husband while trying to retrieve the shield, the kids find that they have been caught on film.

and that his father is the sea god, Poseidon.
Then he goes on a crazy quest to retrieve Zeus' stolen lightning bolt before the Summer solstice.
After that, they meet some crazy characters along the way,
and there are some crazy twists, I will not reveal who the Lightning thief is.
You'll have to watch the movie when it comes out or read the book.

Also, because he thought it would be a good idea. When Haley was a kid, Rick used to tell him that story, and now Haley thought he should publish it. Percy is based somewhat of Haley because of the ADHD and dyslexia.
