Rare Australian animals include: Bandicoots, Bilbies, Dingoes, Dugong, Echidnas, Gilders, Potoroos, Quokkas, Quolls, and Tasmanian Devils.

The above is incorrect. The only animals in the list above which have very low populations and are therefore rare are bilbies and quokkas.

Australia's rarest animals is Gilbert's Potoroo(Potorous gilbertii). It is a small member of the kangaroo family, specifically a rat-kangaroo (which is different to the kangaroo-rat of North America). Listed as critically endangered on several Australian and world listings, there are believed to be only about 30 to 40 individuals remaining in the wild.

They are found only in a small area in Australia's far southwestern corner.

What unusual creatures live in Australia?

Many people regard the echidna and the platypus as unusual because they are egg-laying mammals, or 'monotremes'. The many species of kangaroos are also regarded as unusual. One of the least known jnusual Australian animals is the marsupial mole, while a cometelu sort of creature, the Leafy Sea-dragon, is also extremely unusual.
