There is Roald Dahl, I guess you have heard of him! He writes really funny and exciting books. Also, try Jaqcueline Wilson's books, the books she writes for younger kids are very good, also the illustrations are bright and cheery in her picture books. I don't know any more but try google there are some good reccomendations there.
well i am reading My sister Jodie its a really good book but i am getting to the end of it now and its not for a person who gets upset easily.
