There are three ways I know of to run regedit, which is probably what you want. You can do any one of these:

  1. Click Start and type in to the search box (Win 7) "regedit" and press enter. If you are using an earlier system like XP, you will need to click Start then click "Run..." to type it in.
  2. Click start and find Command Prompt (CMD.exe). Launch that, then type this exact string in: "start "" regedit" and press enter.
  3. Open Windows Explorer and browse to C:\Windows\System32 and find and run one of the following: regedit.exe regedt32.exe or regedt64.exe
If none of these work, then you may need to read and edit through CMD, using the "reg" command. If so, type"reg /?" into Command Prompt to get started.

Regedit command is not working in xp?

start>run>regedit Do remember to backup your registry whenever you are about to do an registry update You can run the Registry Editor by simply clicking 'Run' from the Start Menu, and entering 'Regedit' NOW FOR SOME CAREFUL WARNINGS concerning the registry. If you intend to edit the registry it is highly advisable to make a backup. The Registry Editor is an advanced tool for viewing and changing settings in your system registry, which contains information about how your computer runs. Windows stores its configuration information in a database (the registry) that is organized in a tree format. Registry Editor allows you to inspect and modify the registry, normally you do not need to do so, and making incorrect changes can break your system. Incorrectly editing the registry may severely damage your system. You should use tools and programs that provide safer methods for editing the registry, such as Regcleaner.

Is the Win7 registry editor same as the WinXP registry editor?

Generally they have the same structure , basic keys and values but there are many differences in other keys and values Some new keys appear in Win7 for example : if you want to change OEM information and add some description and Oem_logo to your computer properties , this can be done through registry in win7 , while in Xp you just put the text and the logo in your system32 folder Also in Win7 we have some new features like transparency , Aero ... etc all these stuff have key entries in registry So you can say , Win7 registry is bit different you need to search the internet to discover what is new in Win7 registry.

How do you delete suggested sites from the search bar?

In Windows Internet Explorer 9, I have found that one simple change to the Windows registry using the Registry Editor will stop this annoying problem, at least until some update resets the change. 1. On the Start menu, type REGEDIT in the search box and press Enter key to launch the Registry Editor. 2. Press Ctrl+F to open the Find box, or select Find from the Edit menu. 3. Type Suggested Sites in the Find box and press Enter key. 4. Double click on (Default) and type a zero as the default value, then press the Enter key. 5. Close the Registry Editor. 6. Restart Internet Explorer for the change to take effect. For those fearful of messing with the registry, you can minimize the problem by changing the name of the tab from Suggested Sites to a period. This doesn't eliminate the problem, but it does significantly reduce the width of the tab.
