Whelping or parturition.
Keep him out of the whelping box but let him close by.
Parturition is called whelping in dogs.
Signs of a border collie being pregnant is when they stop being active after a few weeks and start whelping later on and always being lazy and laying down.
The gestation period (length of pregnancy) is 58-63 days from day she conceived. Look for signs of impending whelping such as restlessness, digging, lowered body temperature. Normal temperature for a dog is 101-102 degrees. Just before they whelp, it will drop to around 97 degrees. Make sure you have a whelping box ready for her with lots of newspapers & blankets in it. Put your Veterinarian on alert too when you think she is getting close to whelping. Better yet, take her into be checked out by your Vet. He or she can answer any other questions you may have.
The whelping box should have shelf so that the puppies can get under it. Be sure the box is large enough for all of them.
you can't.
whelping
When they get their momma or are fed
Barking, whelping, howling.
If you have counted the days since conception you should know withing a few days. There are usually signs when whelping is close. Often the bitch will begin to nest or root around in the whelping box (or your cloths etc. if no whelping box is provided) and will sometimes begin to remove the hair from the her belly around the nipples in preparation for nursing. If you pay attention you will also notice changes in her behavior. She may become very clingy and want to be close to you all of the time or she may go off and not want you to be anywhere near her. Some of this varies with the individual dogs personality.
go to a doctor and find out for sure. though if 3 tests came out negative it may be some thing else that is causing the signs.
