When arriving in Guatemala, its recommended to rent a car, its not really safe to get a taxi or take the bus. you can head to a little town called Antigua people mostly speak English. you can party drink get souvenirs, you can even get a hostel like $10 a day. "Tikal" its further east. but this the right place to be, Tikal is a little village were they have the Mayan ruins take lots of pics they got mini-hotel there really cheap. the down side of Guatemala is the city, your limited to doing anything its to corrupted if you want to shop i guess zona 13 things are pretty cheap there but its too ghetto. if you want to experience Guatemala; the city is just not the spot. when eating in Guatemala be really careful examine all foods ask people how it taste, make sure to try there signature dish "fiambre" its really bomb bay. don't foregt a real camara!! not a cell phone.. good luck try visting also salvador houndras or Belize.. 100
