Starting with the basics, since this is the Human Behavior category, the first useful things made from metal were cutting and hunting implements. About the same time in history, people were also making personal adornments, but that doesn't fall into the useful category unless you are adorning your cutting and hunting implements. Other early, useful things made from metal were personal weapons and defensive equipment. Somewhere within this early time frame cooking, eating, drinking and food and beverage containers came into use. In modern times, there are endless useful things you can make from metal, including the same ancient thing are still just as useful today. You can make taps for shoes to roofs for houses and everything in between; trays to sort paperwork in the office to an attachment for a harvester. All you have to do is use your imagination.
