I have a pyloric spasm, Here are some of the things I experienced with it so far.

I had the most awful heartburn (the Nurse Practitioner told me that if I still get heart burn I am to drink WARM water, I assume to ease the muscle from contracting? i never asked why) It would get worse at night. I couldn't lay down because the heartburn was so horrible, it would go into my back! Like fire dancing at my spine! And sometimes it would get so bad that I would literally be drooling from pain. Also I would get quite a bit of acid reflux.

I always had a "full" feeling after eating/drinking. Even with medication (I am on 40mg pantoprazole) I still feel like I can't drink as much as I'd like to, which isn't so nice on a hot day when I just wanna drink tons of ice water! This is due to, according to my NP, my stomach contents having a hard time going through because the sphincter is spasm'ing.

I also feel like I have these odd half hiccup, half burp spouts a lot! I'm not sure if that's connected, but it sort of feels like it would be :/

Just a side story, I had a pelvic ultra sound and I had drank the recommended litre, plus more! And when I got to my appt my bladder was only half full, I couldnt believe this! How could it only be HALF FULL?! I asked my NP about this a few weeks later, and was told it was all due to the pyloric spasm, and for future tests where I need to drink lots of water, I need to start drinking a few hours before to give it time to get through.

The pyloric sphincter, or valve, is a strong ring of smooth muscle at the end of the pyloric canal and lets food pass from the stomach to the duodenum. It receives sympathetic innervation from celiac ganglion. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pylorus

Is the ring like muscle that controls the flow from the stomach to the small intestine?

The ring like muscle that controls the flow from the stomach to the small intestine is called the pylorus or the pyloric sphincter. It is divided into two parts: the pyloric antrum which is connected to the body of the stomach and the pyloric canal which is connected to the beginning of the small intestine (the duodenum).

What is the relationship between pyloric sphincter and chyme?

What is pre-pyloric?

The bottom of the stomach is the pyloric area, with the pyloric sphincter separating the stomach from the duodenum (first portion of the small intestine). The top of the stomach is the cardiac area with the cardiac sphincter. The pre-pyloric area is the area just above the phyloric sphincter where they do biopsies to test for an H-Pylori infection. The pyloric area consists of two parts the pyloric canal and the pyloric antrum.
