During the Boston Tea Party which occurred on December 16, 1773 roughly 342 crates of tea were split open and dumped into the harbor. The Boston Harbor was a HUGE tea pot!!!
The Boston Tea Party was held in Boston Harbour because that was where the Americans, (commanded by Samuel Adams told them to dress themselves as Mohawk Indians) had to throw 342 chests of tea into the water. The 342 chests of tea were in the tea ships which were anchored at Boston Harbour.

Participants in the tea party destroyed 340 chests of tea on the night of December 16, 1773. According to Charles Bahne, author of The Complete Guide to Boston's Freedom Trail, this amounted to more than 46 tons of tea leaves. Such an amount could have brewed 18,523,000 cups of tea! The East India Company reported losses of £9,659 after the Boston Tea Party. This would amount to a million dollars in today's money!
