As of 2009, the US banknotes were selling at a premium as collectibles, varying in value depending on their condition and series. Some typical $1 notes were valued at upwards of $5, $5 at upwards of $10, and $10 notes at $15 to $30. But these were market prices and subject to change. Extraordinary prices in the hundreds of dollars are paid for the rare "perfect" specimens with almost no wear or damage. (see related questions)

What is the value of dollar silver certificates?

The FACE value of these bills is $1 but their collector value varies considerably. For example, circulated 1957 / 57A / 57B silver certificates and some later-series 1935 bills are quite common among collectors and sell for only 25 to 50 cents extra. Others, such as bills specially printed for use in Hawaii and North Africa during WWII, and bills dated 1934 and earlier, can be worth a lot more. If you have questions about a specific date, check to see if there's a small "series letter" next to the date, then check for questions in the form "What is the value of a [date] [letter] US [value] silver certificate?", e.g. "What is the value of a 1953 A US 10 dollar silver certificate?

What is the value of a 1934 US 20 dollar silver certificate?

Please don't assume that every old bill must be a silver certificate. The last US $20 silver certificates were printed in 1891. As the green seal and banner across the top of the bill indicate, a 1934 $20 bill is a Federal Reserve Note. There's more information at the question "What is the value of a 1934 US 20 dollar bill?" .

What years in the 1930's were silver certificates made?

U.S. bills are dated by "series" rather than year of issue. The rules for series years are kind of messy and have changed over time. During the 1930s a series year was kept so long as there was no major design change; new bills had a letter added after the date whenever a new Treasury Secretary or Treasurer was appointed. The first series of $1 silver certificates was dated 1934. That was followed in 1935 by a design change and a new series. The 1935 series was printed well into the 1960s, and is a record for longevity among modern bills. There were no $2 silver certificates issued during the 20th century. $5 silver certificates were printed in a series dated 1934. $10 silver certificates were printed in a 1933 and a 1934 series. Higher denominations weren't issued as silver certificates.
