Five are oxygen, hydrogen, nitrogen, carbon dioxide and water vapour - collectively known as 'fresh air'! Each is toxic, and potentially lethal, in the appropriate dose. The first rule of toxicology is that it is not the toxin but the dose.

One of the claimed 'poisons' in cigarettes is formaldehyde. Many fabric conditioners contain formaldehyde. When you snuggle up in your fresh sheets, not only are you breathing in the 'fresh meadow' fragrance (from chemicals which are poisonous in the appropriate dose) but also traces of formaldehyde. And as the flu season approaches, don't forget your flu vaccination, which may contain formaldehyde, added as a preservative.

I nearly forgot to add that formaldehyde is naturally produced in our bodies as a part of our normal, everyday metabolism.
