In my own opinion the 2 major editions of windows xp are home edition and professional.
Windows Firewall was not introduced until Service Pack 2. There was, however, a firewall included in Windows XP RTM; it just wasn't enabled by default.
All editions of Windows XP except Windows XP 64-bit Edition (not to be confused with Windows XP Professional x64 Edition) are compatible with the Core i3 processor. For the best performance and full support, you should have Service Pack 3 installed, or Service Pack 2 on Windows XP Professional x64 Edition.
According to Microsoft (source: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/888732), both 32 and 64-bit editions of Windows XP support up to 2 physical processors.

No. Those are customized pirate copies of Windows XP.
Yes. Windows XP can be upgraded from the RTM release or a service pack to any subsequent service pack. For example: Windows XP RTM ---> Windows XP Service Pack 3 Windows XP Service Pack 1 ---> Windows XP Service Pack 3 Windows XP RTM ---> Windows XP Service Pack 2 Service Pack 3 is the latest service pack for Windows XP; any planned updates should be to this service pack, and not an older one. As per above, you do not need to install any previous service packs before installing Service Pack 3.
