There are three most common symbiotic relationships. They are Commensalism, Mutualism, and Parasitism.

Commensalism:

Good for one organism, but the other is unaffected.

Mutualism:

Good for both organisms.

Parasitism:

Good for one organism, but bad for the other.

One thing you have to remember about Symbiotic relationships is that no one ever dies. Even when you are a parasite you don't want your host to die, because if it did, the parasite would also die.

There are also two more types of relationships. They are less common though. They are both considered Competition, but they are split into two different groups, Intraspecific and Interspecific.

There are five different kinds of symbiotic relationships:

  1. Mutualism, where both species benefit
  2. Commensalism, where one species benefits, the other is unaffected
  3. Parasitism, where one species benefits, the other is harmed
  4. Competition, where neither species benefits
  5. Neutralism, where both species are unaffected
  6. Predation, one of the animal is the predator and the other one is the prey.

what are the 4 symbiotic relationship and their meaning

The 3 main kinds of symbiotic relationships are:

Mutualism- both organisms benefit,

Commensailsm- one organism benefits, the other is harmed, helped, or affected, and

Parasitism- one organism benefits, the other is harmed.

From my notes I only have three types. Anyways they are as follows:

1. Mutualism- both organisms benefit; as neither is harmed, it is categorized as a +/+ relationship

>obligatory mutualism- neither species involved could survive without the other

(that may have been the fourth type)

2. Commensalism- one organism benefits and the other organism is unaffected; it is categorized as a +/0 relationship

3. Parasitism- one organism benefits at the expense of another organism, which is often harmed but usually not killed; it is categorized as a +/- relationship
