The ozone in the earth's upper atmosphere, the stratosphere, moderates and reduces ultraviolet light (the UV-B range). preventing much of it from getting to ground level. When this ozone is depleted, more ultraviolet light (UV-B) passes to ground level. Ozone provides no "disadvantages" when it is located in the stratosphere. When ozone is made by "domestic" processes in the atmosphere we breathe, it is hazardous to lung tissue, affecting first asthmatics, children, and the aged. Based on the "area" this question is allocated to, questions of medical uses or misuses of ozone are not on topic. Reading further will provide discussion of medical uses of ozone. [OzoneGuy] ---- On one hand, long wave ultraviolet light striking the skin produces natural vitamin D in the body, which helps metabolize calcium into bone tissue. On the other hand, short wave ultraviolet light is ionizing radiation which can produce skin cancer. It may be that the dosage of ultraviolet light that constitutes benefical exposure, and what constitutes excessive exposure may be overlapping. Both the benefits and risks may be present at the same time. It can be seen that both less ozone and more ozone in the upper atmosphere have detriments and benefits simultaneously. On the ground level ozone is a respiratory irritant, and can aggravate the respiratory tract and also asthmatic conditions. Ozone is a more powerful oxidant than oxygen, and is weaker only than fluorine, and a handful of radicals. Ozone is intenioinally generated and used in commerical and municipal applications for sterilization, flocculation, oxidation, and taste and odor reduction. See this link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ozone Conventional medicine considers ozone to be an air pollutant and a poisonous gas, and it is a major contributor to the production of smog. There are some adherents to alternative medicine who claim many "cures" using ozone. However, there appear to be legitimate medical uses for ozone; see this link: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?tool=QuerySuggestion&cmd=search&db=pmc&term=beneficial+effects+of+ozone Ozone exposure has been linked to permanent damage to lung tissue, aggrevation of Asthma symptoms, and plaque formation in the blood stream (hardening of the arteries). Ozone has been successfully used and documented in various peer reviewed literature for: destroying bacteria in cavities, in solution in treatment of intestinal infection (peritonitis), and in treatment of damaged discs in the spine. Also well documented is that ozone is not particularly effective against blood-borne pathogens (HIV / AIDS, etc.), but that it destroys red blood cells just as fast, and generally suppresses the immune system for a time. Note that a molecule more powerful than ozone is made by antibodies to fight infection, this molecule degrades into ozone / hypochlorite / etc. to actually do the work of killing invaders, and Nature does this *very* selectively... not by shoving a tube from an ozone generator into any available orifice ("insufflation"). [OzoneGuy] I suggest to the "two" folks that are having a good time talking about medical uses and misuses of ozone stop doing it here on this answer to ozone as it relates to "Global Warming". [OzoneGuy] And Isuggest, to OzoneGuy, that, since Ozone has nothing to do with global warming, that the question doesn't even belong in this category. [btrevoryoung]
There are no advantages in depleting the ozone layer.
The ozone layer protects the earth, humans, animals and vegetation, including rice crops, from dangerous and damaging ultra-violet radiation.
Advantages: Oxidizes quickly, decays to oxygen, material compatibility is less onerous than for hydrofluosilicic acid, can serve as "dissolved air flotation" replacement, less expensive over a period of years than chlorine, converts COD to BOD, when power is turned off ozone is gone, ozone can be destroyed back to oxygen "instantly" without adding other chemicals, ozone (alone) is less energy intensive than UV, ozone works well even in cloudy water.
Disadvantages: Ozone application will likely be followed up by monitoring for bromate, ozone equipment is expensive up front, ozone gas is hazardous so must be contained and destroyed (but don't have to "dilute to meet discharge limits", like with other chemicals in case of a spill), ozone can damage bottles if the ozone dose is uncontrolled, ozone does not stick around like chlorine does to keep delivery piping biofilm controlled, ozone generators breathe lots of air / gas so are sensitive to where they are installed.
Advantages: Ozone layer blocks around 97% of the total radiation received by the earth. It acts as a blanket and keeps the atmosphere cool. It is responsible for the survival of life on earth.
Disadvantages: Ozone layer present in the troposphere is known as bad ozone. It acts as pollutant and is a major constituent of Urban smog.
The advantages of ozone are many. Saving earth from UV is the primary. Disadvantage is at ground level.
The pro of ozone is at atmosphere level. The cons are the ground level as pollutant.
disadvantages of ozone layer : *harmful to health *smog ozone irritates the lungs *smog ozone can also damage natural building materials *space junk burns up, and goes through the ozone layer
There are many companies which specialize in the rental of ozone generators. Ozone Solutions and Pure Air Treatment both offer ozone generators for rent.
Ozone being an oxidising agent. It oxidises oragnic matter in the infected water to disinfect it.
The ozone layer acts as a protective shield in the Earth's stratosphere, blocking harmful ultraviolet (UV) radiation from reaching the surface. Its advantages include protecting life on Earth from skin cancer and other harmful effects of UV radiation. However, human activities, particularly the release of ozone-depleting substances like chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), have caused a depletion of the ozone layer. This has led to harmful UV radiation reaching the Earth's surface, contributing to various health and environmental issues such as skin cancers and damage to ecosystems. Currently, the situation has improved due to the global phase-out of ozone-depleting substances as a result of the Montreal Protocol, but the recovery of the ozone layer is a gradual process and ongoing monitoring is required.
The ozone keeps out harmful rays from the Sun and helps to keep the planet in a normal temperature range. Ozone is also a powerful anti microbial and works by breaking the bacterial cell wall. It is used in sewerage treatment works since short wavelength Ultra Violet light generates ozone. It is passed through polluted water to sterilise it before it is pumped into rivers and oceans. UV light generating ozone is being used in swimming pools and water treatment works as an alternative to chlorine and is tasteless.
FUNCTION OF OZONE IN WATER TREATMENTOzone is being used as a disinfecting agent in drinking water treatment. It has been used extensively for disinfection and for taste and odour control also.Ozone treatment is generally effctive in dealing with pathogenic bacteria and cysts.Ozone treatment has its own typical advantages and disadvantages too.
NaCl is not used in ozone treatment, but it is commonly found as Na+ and Cl- ions in the water that ozone is applied to.
See "What does the ozone layer do?"
disadvantages of ozone layer : *harmful to health *smog ozone irritates the lungs *smog ozone can also damage natural building materials *space junk burns up, and goes through the ozone layer
There is no advantage of ozone hole. It is harmful for mankind.
Advantages: Easy, Quick, Plenty of it (Renewable - You can grow more trees = more wood) Disadvantages: Takes long time to grow a large amount, cause pollution, breaking down of the ozone layer, GLOBAL WARMING... I'll let you think of some ;)
HIV has nothing to do with OZone. But saving ozone may be helpful to a lot of people.
Yes if you do ozone shock treatment
Ozone treatment has proved itself to be quite effective in past tests. I have heard from a friend who has tried it that it works quite efficiently.
None. Unless you ozonate water immediately before drinking it, there is almost no chance that will will find ozone in drinking water. It is true that ozone is used in both bottled water processes, and municipal water plants, but in both cases the ozone will have broken down back into oxygen long before that water makes its way into a consumer's mouth.
The atmospheric ozone is the good form. It protects us from the UV rays of the sun.
