The Aleutian Islands are a string of about 70 islands that stretch from Alaska almost to eastern Russia. There are 14 quite large ones and many have volcanoes. The population is around 8,000, most of whom are Aleut, a division of Eskimo peoples. I believe there are US Coastguard and Navy bases there also.
The Aleutians Islands form part of Alaska.
