Maharishi Dayananda Saraswati, the great social reformer and Vedic scholar, is the founder of the institution called Arya Samaj at Bombay on the 10 th of April 1875 and had wished that his work of social reforms should continue even after his death. Because of its globally accepted Ten Principles known as Universal Principles of Human Life, it grew into a huge institution gradually and spread even beyond the shores of India. Millions of people were influenced by the Arya Samaj. Arya Samaj has rendered boundless and unequalled service to society through its religious and spiritual centers, its gurukuls, schools and colleges, in emancipation of women through opening educational institutions for women and also orphanages.
