Standard Methods for the Examination of Water and Wastewater has been the most comprehensive set of analytic methods for water and pollution analysis for over 100 years (since 1905).
It covers all aspects of water and wastewater analysis techniques. Standard Methods is published by the American Public Health Association (APHA), the American Water Works Association (AWWA), and the Water Environment Federation(WEF). In addition to being a mine of information for chemists, references are useful for field enforcement staff and first responders at spills.
As an aside, the book is a pleasure to read and a source of info to settle bar bets - e.g. Did you know cemeteries pollute the groundwater water and that a corpse can take up to ten years to decompose?
